Jan Owen, an Australian social entrepreneur, innovator and writer, is the leader of the Foundation for Young Australians. She has spent 25 years developing social initiatives and promoting innovative economy and businesses. In particular, she focuses on supporting Australian youth in their education. Jan Owen will discuss with the participants of the ‘City for Education’ how to unlock the potential of young people to make the world a better place.
ABOUT FOUNDATION FOR YOUNG AUSTRALIANS
The foundation set up by Jan Owen awards scholarships to young Australians (25 years or younger) to learn medicine, social sciences and arts, and carries out joint research with scientists from other countries. Every year, the foundation implements 10 country-wide programs supporting around 10,000 young people, and engages a seven-million strong community of active and passionate people. Foundation for Young Australians carries out extensive research into modern global trends and their impact on young people.
JAN OWEN’S ACHIEVEMENTS
Since she was 18 years old, Jan has been working in the non-commercial sector, namely in the International Women s Development Agency, Social Ventures Australia, Save the Children and the Australian Association of Young People in Care (AAYPIC). Jan Owen’s family were volunteer supporters to families in crisis. They were also protecting women and children from family violence. In 1996, Jan Owen published a book titled “Every Childhood Lasts a Lifetime”, followed by “The Future Chasers” in 2014. She is actively contributing to developing innovations and promoting social businesses in Australia. In 2012, she was on the list of ‘100 most influential women in Australia’, according to The Australian Financial Review Magazine. Jan Owen took part in the Boss Leadership Summit in 2017.
